About Me

Hi, I'm Charles Burnett, a Scrum Product Owner and solutions architect based in Victoria, BC.
Charles Burnett

My service design path started at University of Salzburg, Austria, where I completed a postdoctoral fellowship in conservation ecology. It was there that I started to apply my research and technical skills to help communities tell fresh stories with their data.

As a consultant I designed new services (custom web applications) for Indigenous lands management, Indigenous hertitage data management, range ecologists, and health practitioner communities of practice. As a public servant, I've led teams to design and deploy digital services for clean energy funding, procurement, and data analytics. Check out my projects page to see some highlights.

My Service Design Philosophy

To me service design is about more than just aesthetics; it's about understanding the user journey, identifying pain points, and crafting solutions that are both effective and delightful. I believe in a user-centered approach, where empathy and continuous feedback are key to creating services that truly resonate with users.

My Team Leadership Approach

I believe in fostering a collaborative environment where every team member feels valued and empowered to contribute their best ideas. I prioritize clear communication, continuous learning, and celebrating our successes together.

What Drives Me

What keeps me excited about work is the constant learning and the joy of leading teams as we translate complex user needs into simple, elegant solutions. If the challenge involves geographic data, as it often does, all the better!

Life Work Balance

When I'm not leading teams or coding, you might find me biking with my family, running nearby trails, fly-fishing, or supporting community gardening projects.

Thanks for stopping by. Feel free to browse my projects or get in touch if you'd like to collaborate!
